Beat the Summer Slide with Project Based Learning

Beat the Summer Slide with Project-Based Learning We will start with some edible chemistry. Many kids dread chemistry problems and fear their difficulty. Yet this will not happen during summer school, we will have some fun and tasty recipes which include color-changing lemonade, rock candy crystals, and yeast in action. We will also make Oobleck and look at the properties and decide if it is a solid or liquid. Next, we will make a zipline; and learn about motion and engineering. We will then learn about solar ovens and create one. The students will enjoy watching their Smores cook in the oven and enjoy eating them. Since it is summer, everyone enjoys the lakes. We will make two different boats and see which one floats better. One of these boats will be designed on TinkerCad a 3D printing program. We will also create a spinning top and learn about spin duration and the physics of a top. We will finish summer school by sliding into some hands-on algebra.
