The Owen J. Roberts School District will offer several enrichment and academic opportunities this summer. All opportunities are self-supporting and may only be offered with sufficient enrollment. Students should bring personal snacks, drinks, and/or lunches as needed.

Typically there are no activities on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays; however, activities for the week of June 10th will run Tuesday thru Friday.  Also, activities for the week of July 4th will run Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (July 1, 2, 3).

The high school academic courses on main campus/online will begin on June 17, 2019 and run through July 18, 2019 (8:00am- 11:30am); The online SAT prep courses will run between July 22 and August 23, 2019.

LOCATIONS

There are several construction and summer maintenance projects taking place within our buildings; please note specific locations as they appear with each activity description. Fieldtrips may be embedded within activities to include travel to off-site locations;  these activities will then require special travel permission with registration.

REGISTRATION

The registration process will begin Tuesday, March 12, 2019 and run through Monday, June 3, 2019.

FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE

All activity fees must be paid in full at the time of registration. Refunds will only be made if a session is cancelled due to low enrollment. Refunds will be made in accordance with original payment method. Credit card fees are not assessed by the district and, as such, will not be refunded under any circumstances.

TRANSPORTATION

Families must provide transportation for students to and from activity locations. All field trip transportation will originate from the school where the course is held.

PROGRESS REPORTS

Progress reports will be issued during the first week of July for high school academic courses only.  Unless specifically stated with course information, all summer Academic courses will run from June 18th through July 19th, 2018.

ATTENDANCE

Students are expected to be on time and in attendance for all activity sessions.  In the event of illness or any other unforeseeable absence, please contact either the instructor or the school office.

CONDUCT and DRESS

Students are expected to follow the same rules for summer program classes as they do during the regular school year. An infraction of the discipline code that warrants a suspension during the regular school year will mean an automatic expulsion from the Summer School Program. Tuition and Activity Fees will not be refunded if a student is withdrawn due to misbehavior or disciplinary violations.

DATES: June 17 through July 18, 2019 - Classes meet Monday thru Thursdays with exception to the July 4th week HOURS: 8:00am - 11:30am LOCATION: OWEN J. ROBERTS HIGH SCHOOL - Room 148 (enter through main front entrance) TARGET GROUP: Course Placement & acceleration opportunities for students entering grades 7-12 This course is at an accelerated pace for students who demonstrate advanced mathematics ability. The main emphasis is placed on applications of Geometry, the algebra skills needed for Geometry, and use of deductive reasoning in order to prove various geometric theorems. ROBERTS HIGH SCHOOL - Room 136 (enter through main front entrance) TARGET GROUP: Course Placement & acceleration opportunities for students enterin grades 7-12 This Earth Science course is designed to give students an opportunity to acquire knowledge, appreciation and understanding of the earth, its atmosphere, and the natural universe. A course test average of 88 is required to utilize this course as placement to advance into Honors/CP Biology. Earth Science is an interdisciplinary course with content that focuses on: the nature of science, astronomy, meteorology, and geology, including plate tectonics. Emphasis is placed on using problem solving techniques to explore our relationship with the earth and the environment in which we live through observation, experimentation, performance, and study. This course is the first step in preparing students for the Biology Keystone Exam through the chemistry and ecology unit. 2019 Summer Academic Program-Online Driver's Education

DATES:  June 17 through July 18, 2019 • Online registration for ONLINE Driver Education participation closes June 3, 2019. • Course access to CANVAS and prerequisite work (password and account creation) will be available June 10, 2019. • Students must be ready to begin course requirements by June 17, 2019. • Students must work approximately 1 hour a day/4 days per week to keep pace with the course requirements. 2019 Summer Enrichment Program-Discover Scuba

DATES : JUNE 17, 18, 19, 20 TIME: 9am-12pm (Be ready to enter pool at 9am) LOCATION: OWEN J. ROBERTS MIDDLE SCHOOL SWIMMING POOL GRADE(S): STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES 5-12 (Minimum age of 10 years old) If you’re interested in exploring underwater sights- come to the OJR Middle School pool this summer to learn how to properly use equipment for floating, kicking, and breathing underwater. Participants will become proficient in using SCUBA equipment and developing knowledge of SCUBA concepts and safety procedures. Camp costs will vary depending on equipment rental options, if required. If you can breathe through your mouth, chances are you can learn to scuba dive!! The cost of this is $100 for OJR Camp Fee PLUS the fee for SCUBA gear, air tanks and equipment rental.
