The Charles City Community School District is raising funds to construct a new baseball and softball sports complex. In April 2017 the Charles City Board of Education purchased 20 acres of land north of Sportsmen's Park and outside of the floodplain. Fundraising and grant writing efforts are on-going by a committee of coaches, directors, and local business leaders.
Our primary goal is to hold all scheduled home games in 2019 in Charles City. Since 2010, baseball has been forced to move 69 home varsity games to other communities due to flooding. The proposed project is for the construction of one natural grass softball field (210' outfields) and one synthetic turf baseball infield with a natural grass baseball outfield (320'-360'-320') and a parking lot to accomodate 239 vehicles.
The total cost of this project is $1,984,281.
