Nixa Public Schools Health Services
Children’s Smile Center – Nixa Elementary Schools
Dear Parent or Guardian:
A preventive oral health program is available through the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. This program is offered to all children in the state of Missouri, including those who receive regular dental care.
Nixa Public Elementary Schools will be offering this service 2 times/year, once being in the fall and once in the spring. Within the program, a licensed dental professional will perform an oral health screening on your child, and then a trained volunteer will apply a thin, pleasant tasting, coating of fluoride varnish (not sealant) to your child’s teeth. Fluoride varnish has been proven to be safe and effective in preventing, reducing and stopping small areas of early tooth decay. This program also includes a free toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste, and oral health information. Areas of dental concern will be communicated to the parent by the school nurse.
*This service does not replace the regular dental check-up recommended at least once a year.*
Dental education and screening will be provided to all students.
