We’re thrilled to share that for the second time in a row, in its 12 year history, The Generals Robotics Team from Grant High School has qualified to compete in the 2023 FIRST Robotics World Championship in Houston, Texas. This is a HUGE accomplishment as only 22 teams from the entire Pacific Northwest qualify each year for this elite event. This event is also a HUGE expense. That’s where you come in. We need you to help us accomplish our monetary goal, and get us to Worlds!!
This season, our team was highly competitive, tackling many new challenges. We programmed and learned how to use an entirely new drive train, made necessary adaptations to account for an increase in team members (we almost doubled membership), and worked to increase connection to our community and other teams through targeted outreach projects. After a rewarding season, we advanced to the district event in Spokane, WA. In Spokane, our robot and team fought hard, making it to the semi-finals before being eliminated in a close match. We obtained many points at the district level, ranking 11th place in the PNW out of 150 teams; the highest rank our team has ever earned.
This championship event is an opportunity to take the team to the next level. It also requires funding beyond what we had anticipated. The team needs to raise $50,000 in the next two weeks to cover the cost of 50 students, parent chaperones, and coaches traveling from Portland to Houston. Additionally, these funds will supplement the cost of a hotel for five nights, meals, and other incidentals. Any extra funds not applied to the cost of the trip will be put toward other Grant robotics team costs and fees incurred during this and future seasons.
